Applications are now open for the 2026 JET Programme: Assistant Language Teacher position.
The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme is a Japanese government-sponsored exchange program that aims to improve foreign language teaching in schools and promote international understanding. Under the 2026 JET Programme, the Embassy of Japan in Slovenia is pleased to announce that applications for an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) position (English Teacher) are now open.
1. Available Positions for 2026
Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) – as an assistant English teacher for English classes at schools in Myoko* City in Niigata Prefecture.
*Myoko City has been a sister city with Slovenj Gradec since 2001.
2. Period of Participation
August 3, 2026 to August 2, 2027 (in principle)
*It may be possible for the participant to renew the period of participation for an additional year. Please refer to the application guidelines for more details regarding the renewal.
3. Remuneration
Approximately ¥4,020,000 / year (for the first year)
*The remuneration will rise if the participant renews the period of participation. For more details, please refer to the application guidelines.
4. Eligibility (Key requirements)
Applicants must
1) Be a Slovenian national.
2) Have strong command of English.
3) Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher by August 2, 2026.

5. Application Process Schedule
- Application deadline: March 19
- Document screening: Late March
- Interviews at the Embassy of Japan in Slovenia: Early or mid-April
- Decision on successful candidates: Late May or early June
- Arrival in Japan: August 2
