Greeting from New Ambassador Shigemi Jomori
March, 2013
I came here in Ljubljana where had lots of snow end of February.
But I went back to Japan again just right after arriving here because H.E. Mr. Borut Pahor, President of the Republic of Slovenia, visited Japan as the first formal visit since its establishment. I welcomed him in Japan on March 7th and accompanied him during his stay there. And then I came back again here with light snow.
President Mr.Borut Pahor met his Imperial Majesty Emperor Akihito, and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as well to have a summit conference. A 33-member delegation of Slovenian business representatives accompanied the president to visit Japan and attended to a variety of seminar and meetings. The president also visited Kyoto to see the most famous sightseeing place such as Kyoto Imperial Palace, sanjusangen-do temple, and Kiyomizu-dera temple, and enjoyed dancing show of Maiko and Geisha. His stay in Japan was quite short but fruitful.
This President’s visit to Japan was a highlight of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Slovenia. The relations between two countries will be much more high-level and deepened.
I am honored to be here as a new Ambassador to Slovenia in this period.
I was in Milano until end of last year as a Consul general, also had experiences working in Serbia and Rumania before. So I had visited Slovenia many times then and had known that Slovenia is beautiful country. I’m looking forward to visiting many places in Slovenia during my duty because Slovenia has been developed as an independent country since 22years ago and must has been more attractive compared when I visited before.
There is no problem between two countries, the relationship is quite good. There are so many fans of Slovenia in Japan. The visit of the president to Japan this time will encourage Slovenian people to be a fan of Japan. I sincerely would like to request more support in order to deepen bilateral relationship to those who are big fan of both countries and those who have been a bridge of both countries by exchanging cultural and economic matter. Moreover I would like to encourage those who don’t know much about Slovenia to go library or book store to check the guide book of Slovenia. Although Slovenia is a small country located between Italy and Croatia, but it has a variety of beautiful nature including Adriatic Sea, Alps mountains, beautiful lakes, and the biggest limestone cave in Europe. In addition, Slovenia was controlled under the Hapsburgs until beginning of 20th century so that streetscape of old town is very beautiful with the atmosphere of Middle Ages, people are diligent and friendly. Please visit Slovenia by all means. I’m waiting for you.
